Dancewear Requirements
All students are required to adhere to the Academy dress code except for Trial Classes or when special permission is given (like special event classes). This dress code is necessary to provide the students with a minimal amount of distractions and is also very important to the safety and technical development of the student. The following dress code has been chosen to ensure the most comfortable attire and also the easiest attire to dance in.
The emphasis is on dancewear that allows the teacher to see a dancer’s body placement and alignment while remaining comfortable for the dancer. The dancewear required is standard throughout the dance world and is available from any number of dancewear suppliers. We have provided guidelines but if you have any questions at all, please see your teacher or email us before a dancewear purchase so that we may help you choose the best dancewear for you.
Online Dancewear
This season we have partnered with an online vendor, Discount Dance Supply to make it easy to find the required shoes/apparel at competitive prices. They offer a wide array of nationally recognized dancewear and accessories. While we recommend Discount Dance, you are welcome to purchase dancewear anywhere you choose as long as it adheres to the below guidelines.

Leotards
Girls in all classes except Hip Hop are required to wear solid colored leotards. Leotards with pictures, patterns, tutus, beads and sequins are not permitted. In addition to leotards, skirts are permitted for ballet or combo classes. and tight fitting dance shorts or dance leggings are permitted in all other classes.
Tights
The following tights are accepted dancewear in the respective classes:
Tights must always be worn at the Academy.
- Wiggles and Giggles, Intro to Dance:Theatrical Pink Tights (convertible or full foot)
- Ballet: Theatrical Pink Tights (convertible or full foot)
- Tap: Tan/Skin Tone Tights (convertible or full foot)
- Jazz: Tan/Skin Tone Tights (convertible or full foot)
- Lyrical: Tan/Skin Tone Tights (convertible)
- Acro: Tan/Skin Tone Tights (Stirrup,footless, or convertible)
- All Harmony Elite Company Members will have specific brands and colors of tights that will need to be purchased for performances to ensure consistency. Regular dress code is to be followed for all classes.
Dance Shoes
- Wiggles and Giggles- Pink leather ballet slippers -recommended Capezio Daisy in pink or Bloch “Bunny Hop”
- Intro to Dance- Pink leather ballet slippers- tan tap shoes -recommended Capezio Daisy in pink and Capezio “Mary Jane” buckle tap in tan
- Ballet- Pink leather ballet slippers-Full or split sole-recommended Capezio “Daisy”, Bloch “Bunny Hop”
- Tap- tan tap shoes-recommended Capezio “Mary Jane” in Caramel, Bloch “Tap On” in tan, or Bloch “Sync” in tan
- Jazz- tan slip on low jazz shoe-recommended Bloch “super jazz” in tan
- Lyrical- tan turners-recommended Capezio “turning point” in tan
- Acro- no shoes are worn (please make sure tights are footless, stirrup, or convertible)
- Hip Hop- black “Chuck Taylor” type sneakers that are exclusively worn for class (no street shoes will be permitted on the dance floor)-recommended Double Platinum High Top Sneakers in Black
- Boys-Boys are required to wear black shoes (ballet, tap, and jazz) and white plain t-shirt and solid black bottoms (shorts or pants)

Hair
Hair should be worn pulled back from the face in a bun using hair pins and a hairnet for all classes. Loose hairstyles will not be permitted in class. Ponytails may only be worn for Hip Hop.
Large or loose jewelry should not be worn in any class. Small ball or stud earrings may be worn by dancers with pierced ears. Please leave all other jewelry at home.
